China Proposes Green Shipping Corridor Alliance and Zero-Carbon Fuel Bunkering Network
global.chinadaily.com.cnAt the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2026 in Beijing, China called for deeper international cooperation on sustainable transport, proposing a regular multilateral consultation mechanism, an international green shipping corridor alliance, and a zero-carbon fuel bunkering network. The initiative aims to address disruptions to maritime routes and rising pressure on global supply chains, with China also offering to share AI applications for logistics resilience. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank reported over $18 billion approved for transport projects in the past decade, expected to build or upgrade more than 52,800 km of roads and railways. However, speakers from Singapore and Seychelles highlighted the complexity of transitioning to lower-carbon aviation and shipping, citing the need for common standards, infrastructure, and commercially viable business models. Island economies remain especially vulnerable to transport disruptions, given their heavy reliance on imported goods and tourism.
