China has completed the world's first commercial-scale demonstration of supercritical CO2 waste heat power generation at the Shougang Shuicheng steel plant. The facility uses two 15 MW units to capture exhaust heat from steelmaking, converting it into electricity with higher thermal efficiency than traditional steam turbines. Developed by the China National Nuclear Corporation, this technology utilizes CO2 in a supercritical state to recover energy that would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere. The project marks a significant step in reducing the carbon footprint of heavy industrial processes through advanced thermal energy recovery.
