China has started operating three large carbon fiber production lines in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. The facilities produce general-purpose, high-strength, and high-modulus carbon fiber. A 5,000-tonne line uses dry-wet spinning to make materials for wind turbines at lower cost. A 1,000-tonne T1100 line targets aerospace and low-altitude aircraft. A 600-tonne high-modulus line serves advanced equipment and electronics. Together, they help reduce weight in wind power and electric vehicles, cutting emissions and material use. The new lines fill gaps in domestic high-end carbon fiber supply and reduce reliance on foreign producers. Industry officials say China's total carbon fiber capacity could exceed 200,000 tonnes in 2026. The shift toward lighter materials supports decarbonization in transport and energy sectors. This is a supply side story. The real question is demand. Will wind and EV markets absorb this capacity? If not, you get oversupply and price crashes, which can actually slow innovation.

Oversupply risk is real. But for buildings and industrial retrofits, cheaper carbon fiber could open new applications. Think lightweight structural panels or reinforcement for concrete. That is a different market.
