China Huaneng Group has started a new geothermal project in Zhengzhou that replaces water with supercritical carbon dioxide as the heat transfer medium. This method increases heat extraction efficiency by 20% and reduces energy consumption by 10% compared to traditional water based systems. The project provides winter heating for 18,000 square meters of residential space. By switching from coal to this geothermal technology, the site expects to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 750 tons.
