China Eastern Airlines showcased its sustainability efforts at the 2026 Erhai Forum on Global Ecological Civilization Construction, reporting over 10,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) used in 2025. The airline claims this reduced carbon emissions by an amount equivalent to what around 2.4 million trees would absorb. It also cut carbon emissions per unit of traffic by 5.4 percent through fleet optimization and retiring older aircraft. The airline replaced 53 types of onboard items with biodegradable alternatives and introduced eco-friendly meal boxes that cut carbon emissions by up to 15.6 tonnes per tonne of boxes used. Lightweight service trolleys reduced total aircraft weight by over 1.6 tonnes. CEAir also operates sustainability-themed flights and uses its digital platforms to encourage low-carbon travel choices among passengers. Beyond aviation, CEAir runs a professional live-animal transport system and has completed cross-border animal transport missions. It also hosts biodiversity conservation flights, like those focused on black-headed gulls at Dianchi Lake, turning cabins into platforms for ecological education.
