China Develops Zero-Emission Direct Coal Fuel Cell
timesofindia.indiatimes.comResearchers at Shenzhen University have developed the Zero-Carbon-Emission Direct Coal Fuel Cell (ZC-DCFC). This technology uses electrochemical oxidation to convert coal directly into electricity without burning it, eliminating the traditional combustion process that drives most power plant emissions. The system operates as a closed loop, capturing carbon dioxide and converting it into chemical feedstocks like synthesis gas or sodium bicarbonate. This approach aims to utilize existing coal reserves while preventing carbon from entering the atmosphere.
