China Deploys Space Technology for Greenhouse Gas Monitoring and Carbon Accounting
english.scio.gov.cnChina is integrating satellite technology to improve the accuracy of its greenhouse gas monitoring. By using high-resolution instruments to detect carbon dioxide and methane point sources, the country aims to move from estimated bottom-up accounting to precise top-down verification. These space-based tools support China's national carbon emissions trading market and its goals for peaking emissions by 2030. The strategy includes dedicated satellites for monitoring both industrial carbon sources and forest carbon sinks to ensure more reliable climate data.
