China Daily dialogue explores tech-driven climate resilience for rural communities
global.chinadaily.com.cnA two day dialogue in Gansu province, China, brought together experts and officials to discuss how science and technology can help rural areas adapt to climate change. The event, held on World Environment Day 2026, focused on low-carbon agriculture, desertification control, and green development. Organizers released excerpts from a forthcoming bilingual report that will feature about 10 case studies on technology-driven climate adaptation in rural communities. Speakers highlighted specific techniques including straw checkerboard sand barriers, water-efficient afforestation, and desert-based industries. Mauritania's ambassador to China noted that China-Africa cooperation projects have helped share practical experience in combating desertification. Delegates visited an Ant Forest ecological restoration project and an IFAD-supported agricultural demonstration park using automation and smart greenhouse technology in the Gobi Desert.
