China has updated its carbon intensity calculation method, effectively reducing its reported CO2 emissions growth over the last five years. An analysis by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air shows this shift removes 730 million tonnes of CO2 per year from official growth figures. This methodological change helps the government align with its 14th Five-Year Plan goals. By adjusting how emissions are measured relative to GDP, the reported emissions growth rate dropped from 14 percent to 7 percent, raising concerns about data transparency in global climate tracking.
