China has reached industrial-scale production of T1200-grade carbon fiber, a material with tensile strength exceeding 8 gigapascals. This new fiber is significantly stronger than structural steel while maintaining a much lower density, allowing for extreme weight reduction in heavy industry applications. The material is expected to improve the efficiency of wind turbine blades, hydrogen storage tanks, and electric vehicles. CNBM is claiming a world first in mass production here. If they can actually scale T1200 grade, it could seriously drop the weight of hydrogen transport tanks, which is a huge bottleneck for hydrogen fuel cell viability.
