Chicago indoor air tests found gas stoves pushing CO and NO2 above EPA limits. Illinois should act.
chicagotribune.comVolunteers with Faith In Place's Air Aware project tested 101 homes across Chicago and found widespread indoor air problems tied to gas-burning appliances. In more than 80% of homes they detected carbon monoxide near gas equipment, and over half of kitchens saw nitrogen dioxide rise above 100 ppb after 30 minutes of normal stove use. One test showed CO at 89 ppm and NO2 at 180 ppb after running burners and an oven, exceeding EPA one-hour outdoor standards inside a home.
