Chester retirement community Wyldewoods shortlisted for sustainability award for net-zero design

A retirement community on the outskirts of Chester has been shortlisted for a sustainability award for its net-zero design and operations. The Wyldewoods in Great Boughton, developed by Retirement Villages Group, is a finalist for the Anna Whitehead Prize for Sustainability at the British Institute of Interior Design Awards 2026. The development is the first Thrive Living community delivered under RVG's net-zero strategy. It features fossil fuel-free energy systems, circular design principles, and a 20% biodiversity net gain on site. The project is designed to be net zero in both operational and embodied carbon, with a landscape-led masterplan that promotes walking, social interaction, and connection with nature. The award recognizes projects that place sustainability at the heart of design, delivery, and long-term impact. Winners will be announced later this year. The Wyldewoods offers later-life living with homes, gardens, a central community square, and amenities like a pavilion and clubhouse, all close to Chester city centre.
