CF Industries and PepsiCo have launched a program to reduce the carbon footprint of potato farming for Frito-Lay brands. The initiative uses certified low-carbon urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) fertilizer produced at the Donaldsonville facility using carbon capture and sequestration technologies. Because fertilizer production accounts for up to 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in potato farming, this shift allows farmers to lower emissions without changing their operational methods or sacrificing crop yields.
