Cespira has launched HPDI 3.0, its next-generation high-pressure direct injection fuel system, at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover. The system allows compression-ignition engines to run on LNG, bioLNG, and potentially hydrogen, targeting heavy-duty trucks where electrification is difficult. Production starts in Q4 2026, with first vehicles expected in service by early 2027. Key updates include a new fuel rail pressure control architecture that improves fuel economy and simplifies OEM calibration, higher injection pressure for more power and efficiency, and improved injector sealing for durability. The modular design supports larger engines like V12 configurations, broadening use beyond on-road trucks to off-road applications. Cespira claims over 3 billion kilometers of real-world operation across 10,000 trucks. For fleet operators, HPDI 3.0 offers a way to cut emissions while keeping familiar diesel-like performance and range. The launch reflects the continued role of advanced internal combustion engines in the low-carbon transition, especially for long-haul routes where battery-electric or fuel-cell options remain impractical.
