Cemvision has been selected for a grant of up to €27.5 million from the EU Innovation Fund to build a low-carbon cement plant in Latvia. The plant is designed to produce 500,000 tonnes of cement per year using circular feedstocks like steel-industry slags and an electrified process. Cemvision says the project would avoid about 3.1 million tonnes of CO2 over its first 10 years of operation. The EU Innovation Fund is financed by revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System. Cemvision's project was one of 77 selected from 358 applications after review by independent technical and financial experts. The grant agreement is expected to be signed between November 2026 and March 2027, with the company saying the funding confirms its technology is ready to move from demonstration to industrial scale.
