Celanese and SharpCell are partnering to integrate carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology into the production of airlaid nonwoven materials. By using CCU-based chemical building blocks at the Clear Lake, Texas facility, the companies aim to reduce the carbon footprint of everyday items like wipes and hygiene products. The project is expected to utilize over 400 metric tons of captured CO2 annually. The companies use a mass-balance accounting system to track the captured carbon as it is commingled with conventional fossil-fuel feedstocks during production.
