Celanese and SharpCell are integrating carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology to produce binders for the pulp and paper industry. By using CO2 captured from industrial processes, the partnership aims to create lower carbon nonwoven materials for various consumer products. The project utilizes mass balance accounting to track CCU based raw materials alongside fossil fuel feedstocks. This approach is expected to utilize over 400 metric tonnes of captured CO2 annually at the Clear Lake facility in Texas.
