Celanese Corporation and SharpCell Oy are partnering to integrate carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology into the production of airlaid nonwoven materials. By converting captured CO2 into chemical building blocks for VAE binders, the companies aim to reduce the carbon footprint of consumer and hygiene products. The initiative expects to utilize over 400 metric tons of captured CO2 annually. Celanese uses a mass-balance accounting approach at its Texas facility to track the sustainable content blended with traditional feedstocks, providing a scalable model for industrial decarbonization.
