CDM Registry End of Life: CER Holders Face 31 December Deadline
einpresswire.comThe UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism registry is set to close on 31 December 2026. Kyoto-era Certified Emission Reductions that are not migrated before the shutdown risk permanent cancellation from mid-2027. The CDM covers more than 8,700 projects and 2.4 billion CERs, so the scale of the transition is large. Key dates matter. 25 October 2026 is the last day to request a transition into the Paris Agreement Article 6.4 mechanism. The UN freezes standard CER cancellations and routine transactions on 25 November. CTX, a commercial trading partner to the CDM registry, is promoting three migration paths: Article 6.4 transition, re-issuance on the ITMO Registry, or conversion into private CTX CERs. Note that CTX is selling services here, so treat the deadlines as real and the options as vendor messaging. Private CTX CERs are not UN credits and are not Article 6 authorized, which changes what buyers can count toward climate targets.
