The UNFCCC CDM Registry is set to close permanently on 31 December 2026. CER holders face a series of cut-off dates before then, starting 25 October 2026, the final day to request transition into the Article 6.4 mechanism. After that, the registry freezes routine cancellations on 25 November and remaining stranded credits get purged in July 2027. Holders have three options: transition eligible projects to Article 6.4, reissue assets through the ITMO Registry, or convert CERs into private CTX CERs for a fee. The first keeps credits as UN units. The last preserves vintage and serial numbers but does not carry Article 6 authorization. Anyone holding legacy CERs should check eligibility now. The timeline is short and the consequences of missing a deadline are permanent.
