CATL has partnered with Xiaomi, BMW, Renault, and Volvo to create a global battery standardization alliance, announced during London Climate Action Week. The group is developing a Battery Circular Design Guide, due in 2027, that will set uniform rules for cell testing, pack disassembly, and remanufacturing. This aims to improve battery asset valuation and lifecycle management for both passenger EVs and heavy commercial trucks. The initiative also targets supply chain emissions, which are five times higher than factory operations. CATL says its subsidiary Brunp processed 210,000 tons of battery waste in 2025, recovering 99.6% of core minerals. Recycled components have already cut material carbon intensity by 32%. Separately, CATL is expanding battery swap infrastructure in Europe with Octopus Energy, building on a heavy-duty swap corridor in China.
