CATL Reaches Carbon Neutrality in Core Operations, Aims for Full Value-Chain Net Zero by 2035
batteriesnews.comCATL has announced that it achieved carbon neutrality across its core operations in 2025, covering all 20 of its battery plants. The company reports a 77% reduction in carbon emission intensity since 2022 and 100% zero-carbon electricity use in its own factories. It also says it has cut energy use per unit of product by 28% versus 2022, and delivered over 10 million tonnes of CO2e reductions from 2023 to 2025. Now CATL is shifting focus to its supply chain, which accounts for more than 80% of lifecycle emissions. Starting in 2027, new suppliers must provide product carbon footprint data, and renewable electricity usage will factor into annual reviews. The company aims for 100% green electricity across the value chain by 2035, along with green logistics and expanded battery recycling through Brunp Recycling. This move sets a clear precedent for the battery industry, showing that carbon disclosure requirements can be pushed down the supply chain. The 2035 value-chain goal is ambitious, and the procurement rules could become a model for other manufacturers.
