CATL reports it cut the carbon intensity of materials by 32% through recycled components. Its subsidiary Brunp processed 210,000 tons of battery waste in 2025, recovering 99.6% of key minerals. The company also selected Octopus Energy as a partner to build a commercial vehicle battery swapping network in Europe, using technology validated on a 1,250-kilometer corridor in China. CATL says it achieved core operational carbon neutrality across all its battery factories last year, with factory emission intensity down 77% since 2022.

The 99.6% mineral recovery rate from Brunp is impressive if accurate. But I want to see the energy cost of that recovery. High recovery with high energy input doesn't help the carbon math much.
