CATL and CECEP expand partnership on perovskite solar, sodium-ion storage, and zero-carbon mining
autonews.gasgoo.comCATL has deepened its partnership with China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP) to push forward next-generation solar technology, sodium-ion energy storage, and zero-carbon infrastructure. The deal focuses on commercializing perovskite solar cells, which offer higher theoretical efficiency than conventional silicon, and deploying sodium-ion storage systems for large-scale wind and solar projects. Sodium-ion technology is highlighted for its low-temperature performance, safety, and cost advantages that could lower the levelized cost of electricity over time. The two companies also plan to build zero-carbon demonstration projects in Hainan Free Trade Port and collaborate on green mining initiatives in Belt and Road countries. CATL will supply electric mining trucks and integrated storage systems to cut diesel use and emissions at mining operations. This partnership reflects a broader trend of battery manufacturers moving beyond EVs into stationary storage and industrial decarbonization, aiming to create scalable models for other regions pursuing low-carbon transitions.
