CATL adds supplier carbon data to procurement decisions, targets net zero value chain by 2035
globalsources.comCATL is changing how it picks suppliers. Starting next year, companies bidding on CATL projects must report carbon footprint data covering raw material sourcing, manufacturing, and sales. CATL will also factor renewable energy use and energy intensity into annual supplier reviews. Suppliers with stronger environmental scores are more likely to win orders, which links carbon performance directly to business opportunities. CATL says more than 80% of its products' lifecycle emissions come from upstream stages, so cutting factory emissions alone won't reach its net zero goal. The company has already declared carbon neutrality in core operations and is now pushing its supply chain to follow by 2035. This move reflects growing regulatory pressure, especially in Europe, and could push emissions accounting standards across the global lithium-ion battery supply chain.
