Carousell's Singapore climate leaderboard: City Hall tops with estimated 680,835 kg CO2e avoided from secondhand sales

Carousell launched a Circular Economy Impact Microsite ahead of World Environment Day, featuring a live Neighbourhood Leaderboard that ranks Singapore communities by the estimated climate impact of their secondhand transactions. As of 5 June, City Hall ranked first with 680,835 kg of CO2e potentially avoided, followed by Tampines East and Sengkang Town Centre. The company estimates one secondhand purchase avoids an average of 15.6 kg of CO2e, equivalent to skipping 31 hours of air conditioning use. The microsite was developed with climate tech firm Vaayu using lifecycle assessment methodology and data from over 15,000 survey responses. Across the Carousell Group ecosystem, about 262 million kg of CO2e were potentially avoided in a single reporting year. The leaderboard updates daily and allows users to see estimated carbon savings by product category, with Hobbies & Toys and Women's Fashion leading in most neighbourhoods. Carousell says the goal is to make climate data more accessible and encourage more circular trade.
