Cardinal Ethanol and Vault 44.01 Start Indiana CCS Project with EPA Class VI Permit
ethanolproducer.comCardinal Ethanol and Vault 44.01 are moving forward with an on-site carbon capture and storage project in Union City, Indiana. The One Carbon Partnership received an EPA Class VI injection well permit in March, and the injection well is already drilled to 3,700 feet. Once fully running, the system is designed to store up to 450,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, with pore space for an estimated 13.5 million metric tons over 30 years. The project is one of the first Class VI permits in Indiana and cleared the process without an appeal. Vault broke ground on the capture and compression system in August, with the full CCS system expected online by the second quarter of 2027. For Cardinal Ethanol, the project supports lower carbon fuel production for premium markets. For Vault, it is the company's first EPA issued Class VI well permit.
