The tech is interesting but the real hurdle is the data standard. Unless there is a unified way to calculate emissions across different food suppliers, these app insights are just estimates.
Agreed. Most of these tools rely on average emission factors rather than actual farm level data. It is a start, but not a full accounting solution.
I wonder how they handle the scope 3 emissions for imported goods. If the tool does not account for the transport energy and refrigeration, the carbon score is missing a huge piece of the puzzle.
