Carbon Streaming Says Upenergy Defaulted on $4.9 Million Payment for Community Carbon Stream Buyout
manilatimes.netCarbon Streaming Corporation announced that UpEnergy Group failed to pay the $4.9 million closing payment required under a buyout agreement for the Community Carbon Stream. The agreement, signed in March 2026, would have transferred Carbon Streaming's interest in the stream and related carbon credit inventory to UpEnergy for total consideration of $6 million. UpEnergy had paid a $100,000 non-refundable deposit but missed the May 30 deadline for the closing payment. As a result, the buyout agreement has terminated, and the Community Carbon Stream remains fully in effect under Carbon Streaming's control. The company says it is evaluating its legal options and intends to enforce its contractual rights. The default raises questions about the financial health of UpEnergy and the risks inherent in carbon credit streaming deals where buyers fail to meet payment obligations.
