Carbon Standards, the Swiss registry, opened a 30-day consultation on its Technically Advanced Kilns (TAK) Standard for industrial biochar production. The draft replaces annual sampling with continuous digital monitoring of reactor temperatures, oxygen levels, and biochar output. Batches only get certified when complete records back them, and gaps in monitoring exclude those volumes. The standard also requires pyrolysis to run without fossil fuels, oxidize pyrolysis gases, and keep carbon monoxide and methane within monitored limits. Carbon removal from the biochar is still quantified under the separate Global Biochar C-Sink Standard. The public comment period runs to November 20, with a webinar on November 11 and a final version planned for December 30.
