A new report from the Bank of Korea's Busan branch and Korea Maritime and Ocean University estimates that tighter shipping emissions rules could drive 10.7 trillion won in eco-friendly ship investment across South Korea. The analysis models a 52.2% rise in EU Allowance prices and says Busan alone could see 1.59 trillion won in production, 626.8 billion won in value added, and 8,991 jobs. Most of that impact would come through supply chain links with Ulsan, South Gyeongsang, and South Jeolla. The report also covers green port infrastructure and shipping operations. It says 22.1 billion won in green port investment at Busan Port could generate 27.6 billion won in production and 126 jobs. For ship operators, using the Arctic route on the Busan-Rotterdam run could cut fuel and CO2 by 28.6%, and slow steaming would raise total savings to 37.7%.
