New research shows that carbon neutrality policies provide greater benefits to global agriculture than previously estimated. By accounting for the reduction in ground-level ozone alongside CO2 cuts, the study finds that crop losses for maize, rice, soybean, and wheat could be significantly mitigated. Including ozone data reveals that existing climate pledges could prevent up to 41.5% of crop losses. Over 70% of global crop areas would see gains compared to a business-as-usual scenario, highlighting a strong economic incentive for aggressive decarbonization.
