Carbon Neutral Fuels FlexSAF Design Raises UK SAF Output to 42,000 Tonnes
biomassmagazine.comCarbon Neutral Fuels has released details of its FlexSAF design for Project Starling in the UK. The plant combines two feedstock routes, eSAF from biogenic CO2, water and renewable electricity, and advanced bioSAF from biomethane, into one shared Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and upgrading line. That shared line lifts target SAF production from 25,000 to roughly 42,000 metric tons per year, and the company says recycling naphtha and tail gas back into the syngas stream lets almost all output become aviation-grade fuel. The company expects the shared infrastructure to lower production cost per tonne while letting operators shift the mix between eSAF and bioSAF based on feedstock availability and market demand. Carbon Neutral Fuels calls it a UK-first commercial scale hybrid design. The announcement is worth tracking because the cost and flexibility details, not just the headline output number, will determine whether this type of plant actually scales beyond one project.
