Carbon negative brick factory opens in Sheffield making bricks from recycled soil

earth4Earth has opened its first UK factory in Sheffield to manufacture bricks and brick slips from recycled soil sourced from construction sites. The company uses a compression process at room temperature instead of traditional firing, which avoids the high emissions of conventional brick production. A proprietary lime-based binder also captures CO2 from the air and stores it permanently, making the bricks carbon negative over their lifecycle. The Neepsend facility will start with brick slips and samples, with plans for a larger UK plant in 2027 that could create around 20 jobs and serve customers across the UK and Europe. earth4Earth already runs a factory in Wuhan, China, capable of producing 300,000 bricks per month. The company's products have been used on projects in Sheffield, Manchester, London, and China as demand for lower carbon construction materials grows.
