Carbon nanotubes enable 400 Wh/kg battery cells for electric regional aircraft
electrichybridvehicletechnology.comOCSiAl is supplying single-wall carbon nanotubes to the ELEVATE project, a Horizon Europe initiative developing battery cells with energy density above 400 Wh/kg for electric regional aircraft. The nanotubes support silicon-rich anodes and solvent-free dry-coated cathodes, which are key to achieving higher performance while reducing manufacturing emissions. The consortium includes cell developer UniverCell, aircraft developer Vaeridion, Daikin Chemical Europe, and several research institutions. The project aims to move lab-scale battery technologies toward commercial aviation applications, with potential spillover into other electrified transport sectors.
