India's Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) has appointed Sanjay Kumar Singh, a former Secretary in the Ministry of Steel, as its new President. Singh previously served as Senior Advisor at Jindal Steel and brings more than 36 years of government and industry experience. The appointment comes as India prepares to implement the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and participate in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. CMAI says its priorities under Singh will include building industry readiness for CCTS, supporting credible carbon project development, attracting investment, and strengthening international partnerships. The group also plans to focus on industrial decarbonisation, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors like steel, and on ensuring that carbon trading supports both climate outcomes and industrial competitiveness.
