Researchers have developed a nanoscale carbon dot spray for rice leaves that reduces cadmium accumulation in grains by 46 percent. The treatment works by reprogramming leaf metabolism and strengthening the iron plaque around roots, which blocks toxic metals from entering the plant. Field tests show that this method also increases grain yield by 18 percent without affecting nutritional quality. This approach offers a scalable way to manage heavy metal contamination in paddy soils where full soil remediation is not practical.
