Carbon Direct Rebrands as Relae to Expand Beyond Carbon Removal into Energy and Climate Strategy
carbonherald.comCarbon Direct, a climate advisory firm founded in 2020, has changed its name to Relae to reflect a broader mission that now includes sustainable power procurement, low-carbon fuels, environmental attribute certificates, and natural capital. The company says growing electricity demand, grid constraints, and shifting fuel choices are increasingly tied to corporate climate decisions, so it has reorganized around those links. Carbon removal remains a core service, but it is now one part of a wider advisory offering. Relae reports it has advised more than 150 clients across 17 sectors and six continents, evaluated over half of the tonnes in announced global carbon-removal offtake agreements, and completed more than 900 project due diligence reviews in 63 countries. The rebranding signals a shift in how climate advisory firms are positioning themselves, moving from single-focus carbon removal to integrated energy and environmental strategy.
