Carbon capture plant at Parc Adfer deferred after English communities not consulted
chesterstandard.co.ukFlintshire County Council has deferred a decision on the £200m carbon capture unit at the Parc Adfer energy from waste plant in Connah's Quay. The deferral came after councillors learned that communities on the English side of the Dee Estuary, including Burton, Shotwick and Puddington, had not been consulted. Some of those villages are closer to the site than parts of Connah's Quay itself. The plant would process 232,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste a year and capture around 241,000 tonnes of CO2, feeding it into the Hynet pipeline for storage in Irish Sea gas wells. Enfinium says the project is critical for Wales' carbon budget and that regulators are satisfied on emissions. Councillors voted to defer anyway to let cross-border communities have their say.
