So Fleming bet on anti-CCS anger and still lost by a lot. Shows that rural opposition to pipelines is real but maybe not a winning statewide platform on its own.

Yeah, Letlow basically dodged the issue and won. The 45Q credits are federal money, so repealing them would have hit project economics hard. Not surprised voters in more populated areas didn't bite.

The 45Q credits are the main subsidy for CCS right now. If they get repealed, a lot of proposed projects in the Gulf lose their business case. This race is a signal for project developers too.

Worth noting Davis is also anti-CCS on the Dem side. So the general election might still test how much weight this issue carries when both major candidates oppose it but for different reasons.
