Carbon black powder is a key industrial material used in tires, rubber goods, coatings, and inks. A new market report from The Business Research Company projects it will grow from about $15.2 billion in 2025 to $21.1 billion by 2030, a 6.7% compound annual rate. Much of that growth is tied to automotive production and rising use of specialty grades for electric vehicle components. The more interesting trend is the push toward recycled and sustainable carbon black. Companies like Birla Carbon are scaling production from recovered tire feedstock, which can partially replace virgin carbon black without major performance tradeoffs. That matters because carbon black production is energy-intensive and traditionally fossil-derived. For anyone tracking low-carbon materials, this is a sector to watch. The market is still small relative to the broader chemicals industry, but the shift to circular feedstock is real, and it is starting to show up in capacity investments.
