Cape Town is utilizing a process called BRIC to transform invasive alien trees into interlocking building blocks. By blending chipped biomass with recycled rubble and low-carbon binders, the city is sequestering carbon and producing materials with triple the insulation value of traditional clay bricks. The initiative combines climate action with economic development, providing green skills training and employment for women. The project is funded through a mix of wage grants, Gold Standard carbon credits, and green bonds, creating a scalable model for urban decarbonization.
