Canada's first commercial heavy-duty hydrogen refuelling station opens in Delta, B.C. to support freight decarbonization

HTEC has opened Canada's first commercial heavy-duty hydrogen refuelling station on Tsawwassen First Nation land in Delta, British Columbia. The station dispenses hydrogen at both 350 and 700 bar, with a daily capacity of 400 kg, and is designed to support fuel cell electric trucks for drayage and regional freight routes. It will initially serve 12 Class 7 and 8 trucks operated by Harbour Link and Triple Eight Transport, with funding from the B.C. Hydrogen Truck Pilot Project and B.C. Hydrogen Ports Project. The station is strategically located near major port operations, giving freight carriers direct access to low-carbon hydrogen produced at HTEC's Burnaby facility. Unlike diesel trucks, these fuel cell vehicles emit only water vapour. The project is backed by partners including the Canada Infrastructure Bank, Natural Resources Canada, and the B.C. government's low-carbon fuel program. It marks a concrete step toward decarbonizing heavy-duty transport, one of Canada's hardest sectors to clean up.
