HTEC has opened Canada's first commercial heavy-duty hydrogen refueling station on Tsawwassen First Nation land in Delta, BC. The station dispenses at 350 and 700 bar with a daily capacity of 400 kg, supporting 12 Class 7 and 8 fuel cell electric trucks for drayage and regional routes. Harbour Link and Triple Eight Transport are the first fleet operators, backed by the BC Hydrogen Truck Pilot Project and BC Hydrogen Ports Project. The station can also fuel diesel/hydrogen dual-fuel trucks and hydrogen buses. It sources low-carbon hydrogen from HTEC's Burnaby facility. Partners include the Canada Infrastructure Bank, Natural Resources Canada, and the BC government's low-carbon fuel program and ICE Fund. This project is a concrete step toward decarbonizing the commercial freight sector, one of the hardest to clean up.

400 kg/day is small. How many trucks does that actually serve? A Class 8 fuel cell truck might burn 30 kg per 100 km. That's maybe 1,300 km of trucking per day total.

It's a pilot. The interesting part is the funding mix. CIB, NRCan, BC low carbon fuel program, ICE Fund. That's a lot of public money for 12 trucks. Need to see cost per kg to know if this scales.

Also note the location. Tsawwassen near port operations. Drayage trucks are high mileage, short routes, and return to base. That's the ideal use case for hydrogen fueling hubs.

Dual fuel diesel/hydrogen trucks are a bridge. But the real question is whether the hydrogen is truly low carbon. Article says sourced from HTEC Burnaby. What's the production pathway?
