Canada is putting more than $17 million into 12 Quebec forest-sector projects focused on low-carbon technologies and Indigenous involvement. The funding supports biocarbon for metallurgy, cellulose nanocrystal production, laminated veneer lumber manufacturing, and Indigenous forest management planning. Recipients include Xylo-Carbone, LVL Global, CelluForce, and several First Nations groups. The projects aim to cut carbon emissions in industrial processes and expand value-added wood products. For example, Xylo-Carbone gets $4.5 million to produce a biocarbon composite for metallurgical applications, while CelluForce receives $1.9 million to improve cellulose nanocrystal production. The Quebec Wood Export Bureau also receives over $6 million for market diversification. This funding is part of a broader federal push that has allocated over $2 billion to Canada's forest sector since August 2025. A national Forest Sector Strategy is expected by the end of 2026. The Quebec forest sector contributes $6.4 billion to provincial GDP and supports nearly 60,000 jobs.
