The backstop is the only way to prevent a fragmented market where some provinces just ignore emissions. Without a federal floor, the incentive to invest in low carbon tech disappears in certain jurisdictions.
True, but the political pushback makes the actual price trajectory feel unstable. Hard to pitch a 20 year project finance plan when the carbon price might change with the next election.
Price signals are fine, but they do not build transmission lines. I want to see how this pricing actually accelerates grid interconnection for the renewables that are supposed to replace the gas plants.
