Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith have agreed to raise Alberta's industrial carbon price to 130 dollars per tonne by 2040. In exchange, the federal government will consider a proposal for a new oil pipeline, provided the province proceeds with the Pathways carbon capture and storage project. The deal faces pushback from environmental groups and the B.C. government. Industry leaders have expressed concerns over the increased cost of carbon pricing and the actual market value of decarbonized oil.
