Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith have signed a carbon pricing agreement to create market certainty. The deal includes a minimum price for carbon credits starting in 2030 and a reduction in federal headline prices. This agreement is critical for the Pathways carbon capture project, which is a prerequisite for federal approval of a new bitumen pipeline. The proposed pipeline could transport one million barrels per day to Asian markets, with construction potentially starting in 2027.
