The federal government and Alberta have agreed on a carbon pricing framework targeting 130 dollars per tonne by 2040. The deal includes a minimum floor price for TIER credits starting in 2030 and the issuance of 75 million tonnes of Carbon Contracts for Difference to fund emissions reduction projects. Beyond pricing, the agreement focuses on doubling Alberta's electricity grid by 2050 using nuclear, wind, solar, and geothermal power. It also outlines a proposal for a low-emission bitumen pipeline and a target to reduce methane emissions by 75 percent below 2014 levels by 2035.
