Canada and Alberta have signed an implementation agreement to stabilize carbon markets and accelerate decarbonization. Key measures include a carbon price target of 130 dollars per tonne by 2040, a minimum floor price for TIER credits starting in 2030, and the issuance of 75 million tonnes of Carbon Contracts for Difference to support clean tech projects. The deal also focuses on energy infrastructure, aiming to double the electricity grid by 2050 through nuclear, wind, solar, and geothermal power. Additionally, the agreement outlines a plan for a low-emission bitumen pipeline to Asian markets, tied to the emissions reductions of the Pathways Project.
